Awesome aren’t they! Not fazed at all by the noise of the Nikon D3000 shutter.

Thank you Olga. It’s the first time I’ve tried using the Nikon on the other side of the curtain – I usually use the mobile phone. Lucky the lens didn’t try and focus on the dirt on the window pane! I was rapt when I uploaded the photos to the PC. 🙂

And I still can’t get over that I only paid $180 bucks for it on eBay, Effy, and then found it has done less than 1000 shutterclicks or whatever it counts. I’ve doubled it now, of course. I was horrified this morning when I discovered I had left it out of its bag overnight. Worse, I left the bag gaping open. 😮 Gotta look after it.

I had one as a pet for 27 years. Lovely birds. Always kept herself pristine and clean. Thanks for sharing.

They are wonderful birds. My grandma had one and it was a cheeky devil, always trying to entice you close enough to have a nibble on your finger. Grandma kept it in a big cage while us kids were there, but it also had a perch and a chain for its ankle.

I agree.Ours was sold to us as a male, but when we put it in the cage with another male galah, it started making advances to the galah! We thought we had a gay cockatoo, or it was a social gender experiment as there were only these two in the aviary. Lo and behold, time passed and an egg appeared in the bottom of the aviary….. upon researching it was a cockatoo egg! The male was actually a female with dark eyes!!!

I only just found out that the cockatoo females also have red eyes, but are very hard to see. I understand why the egg would be a surprise, then. 🙂

Yes. The egg was infertile unfortunately. The logistics of the little male galah’s body not being as long as the cockatoos meant that “fertilisation” was impossible. But it didn’t stop him trying!! Lol
