Thanks for dropping in to have a squizz at my ‘About Me’ page.

My name is Christine Randall and I live in Central Victoria, Australia. I was born in South Australia in 1955 – you do the maths. I have a daughter and a son from my first marriage (1973) and 3 step-sons from my second (1992). My husband and I have many grandchildren aged from still in the womb to adult.

I decided to have a blog because I like nothing better than mucking around at the computer and love writing. I used to keep a diary during my teen years, mainly to keep track of interesting happenings to share with my many penfriends. I let the last of them drift away in the late 1990s when my life when through a personal upheaval. I burnt my diaries.

Around 2003, I took up genealogy. Lots of surprises in store – a convict ancestor for me and the startling revelation that my second husband and I are 6th cousins. In 1839, a pair of Protestant Irish brothers arrived in Australia – one for him, one for me.

I also discovered that my paternal grandfather was not from Scotland, but was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England to parents of Irish descent. I was pretty annoyed to lose my Scottish heritage.

Researching family history research also brought back that previous connection I enjoyed with strangers in other parts of the world. Many many cousins of various degrees have entered my life. Most live here in Australia, but we have heard from cousins in England, Wales, Canada, USA, South Africa and New Zealand. Some come into my inbox, exchange information, and then go. Others have been happy to keep in touch.

About 2011, I finally began writing a fantasy novel.  Only in the last 18 months has it been able to shove aside my genealogy addiction. When I started this blog I had intended posting in a Family History section. This ended up a fairly random affair as I picked out interesting persons to write about. Now those posts are not even in my menu. Next year, 2017, I will set up a separate website. The novel is in revision and will be released on my 62nd birthday.

  6. Christine, I am hoping your posts wii come through now. Have enjoyed reading more of your posts. I did enjoy finding the Hewie one about self publishing. It made me feel more confident. Thanks for that. 🙂 Barbara

    • Hello again Cady. I just changed my theme earlier in the week and added the header. The flowers are from an eucalyptus tree. We tend to call them all gum trees and these flowers gumnuts. turn into the seedpods we call gumnuts. This tree grows outside our fence and is flowering now. 🙂

    • Thank you for calling by my blog Millie. Lovely to meet you too. I wandered on to your blog from somewhere, a link in another writer’s blog no doubt. Your book subject sounds great – I love historical fiction, but not as much as Fantasy. I’ve been stuck in my novel, but I’ve worked on diagramming its structure and finally worked out I’d started too far along ‘in the action’, maybe as far as the middle! So I’m back at it now. Thanks for the follow, much appreciated.

  18. Lovely About, Christine! You sound like an interesting person and one I’d enjoy getting to know. I like and can greatly appreciate your admonishment about blog ‘awards’. The first time I was ‘nominated’ for one I was thrilled until I realized they are nothing more than a Ponzi scheme of sorts. Like you, I say ‘no thanks’! Still though, I suppose, some good intentions lie behind them but I don’t care to engage or perpetuate such nonsense.

I’ve been dashing in and out of my blog lately and haven’t checked on the innards, so only just now found this comment in my spam folder.   22. Thank you for sharing! Genealogy is fascinating isn’t it? I can relate to your addiction, very understandable. Are you still writing your novel?
